An opening matchday win over Ipswich Town on August 17th was followed up by a comfortable 2-0 home win over Brentford on August 25th. Liverpool Team News

Liverpool's clean injury report ended just before the Brentford match when Arne Slot confirmed that midfielder Curtis Jones picked up a knock in training. Jones has not received an injury status update yet, although it is likely that this will be addressed in Arne Slot's press conference on Thursday.

Joe Gomez, who missed Liverpool's match against Ipswich Town due to transfer speculation, has since been back in the travelling squad and is training as usual. Given the window will close before the Reds' fixture against United, whether or not Gomez is in the squad will be decided by whether or not he is still at the club.

Federico Chiesa will be confirmed as a Liverpool player before the match, with the window closing on Friday, but perhaps it would be a stretch to see the Italian winger in the squad so soon. However, he will certainly meet the deadline to be eligible for the match, and it will be a matter of whether Slot feels he's ready to make an impact right away.

Manchester United News

While Liverpool has minimal injury concerns, Manchester United has a group of players who are still weeks away from returning to training. Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia are injured and will not feature on Sunday.

After Manchester United's defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in matchday two, manager Erik ten Hag confirmed that Mason Mount's substitution out of the match for Joshua Zirkzee was an injury precaution as Mount had "an issue" in the match. His status for the match, like Curtis Jones for Liverpool, is currently unknown and is likely to be addressed by ten Hag in media availability.

After featuring in the pre-season and the Community Shield match, Jadon Sancho was left out of Manchester United's first two squads of the season. With transfer speculation currently above the Englishmen's head, Sancho remains away from the teamsheet for Erik ten Hag. It seems highly unlikely Sancho is still with United past the deadline on August 30th with interest from both Chelsea and Juventus.

United could have an incoming ready for the fixture against Liverpool, though, as Manuel Ugarte is close to becoming a Red Devil. The Uruguayan midfielder will be joining from Paris Saint-Germain, although it is unclear if Erik ten Hag will put him directly into the team, given that the match is just days away.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Score Prediction

Undoubtedly Liverpool's toughest fixture of the season yet, the Reds will need all hands on deck to come away with three points at Old Trafford. Drawing both matches last season and a close defeat in the FA Cup, it feels like this match is shaping up for another close affair. While Liverpool's 7-0 win looms not far in the historical books, Arne Slot's side will likely be facing an eager United side to bounce back from a loss last week.

Final prediction: 1-1, Mo Salah to make it three matches in a row with a goal.
