It has been some time since Liverpool signed a player from La Liga.

Amid the hunt to secure their first signing of the summer, Liverpool reportedly have fully set their sights on Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi. 5. Alberto Moreno from Sevilla - August 16th 2014

Yes, it has been nearly ten years since Liverpool signed a player from La Liga. Sevilla was Moreno's childhood club, having been born and raised in the southern city of Seville. When he moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2014, Moreno and Sevilla were just fresh off a Europa League triumph over Benfica, winning on penalties.

Moreno became the first-choice left-back under Brendan Rodgers during the 14-15 season with Liverpool and continued that into the 15-16 season when the Reds transitioned from Rodgers to Klopp in the fall of 2015. However, the following season, Klopp decided to move James Milner from the right side to the left, turning Moreno into a bench option for the 16-17 season.

The arrival of Andy Robertson in the summer of 2017 foreshadowed what was to come for Alberto Moreno, but the Spaniard actually re-earned a starting spot under Jurgen Klopp for the 17-18 season before succumbing to an ankle injury midway through the campaign. Robertson came in as his replacement, and that was effectively the beginning of the end for Moreno's time at Liverpool.

Despite being out of the squad most of the 18-19 season, Moreno passed the threshold to be eligible for a Champions League medal and was part of the Reds' celebrations in Madrid after defeating Tottenham. Not long after the win, Liverpool officially released him, and Moreno became a free agent.

His departure in 2019 saw Moreno return to La Liga, this time with the yellow submarine Villarreal. A significant injury limited his time early on with Villarreal, but eventually, he'd pick up another European trophy, winning a Europa League final over Manchester United in 2021. Alberto Moreno, now age 32, plays for Como in Serie A.
