Mohamed Salah has reiterated his value to the club and the Reds must reward him
There is no denying the greatness of Mohamed Salah in a Liverpool shirt. His time at Anfield has been full of goals, records, trophies and awards.
The club signing the Egyptian winger from AS Roma all those years ago might go down as the best bit of business they have ever done. Even now, at the age of 32, he is perhaps in the best form of his Reds career.
It's a wonder to realize then that he is in the final year of his contract and there is no new deal close to being completed between the club and their talisman.
Salah's stunning start to this new season has reiterated his position in the Liverpool player hierarchy and his blunt interview following the Manchester United win has put the ball squarely in the club's court to get something done, and they must oblige.
Salah is still one of the World's very best
6 goal contributions from 3 games is more than elite numbers. Salah has come into this new age under Arne Slot and not only has he thrived, but he has reestablished himself at the top of the game.
Slot's possession based style clearly suits Salah as he has added a new playmaking dimension to his game in addition to the goals we have become accustomed to seeing from him over the years.
He has been ruthless with his chances and he is playing with such a confidence and joy right now that I feel any defender in world football would not like going against him in this rich vein of form. He has begun showing just how diverse his game can be and the Liverpool attack has benefitted greatly.
Slot made it clear he was very happy Salah is doing the damage for us and not against us.
""At this moment, he's one of ours and I'm really, really happy with him being one of ours. He plays really well. We, I don't talk about contracts for players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.""
- Arne Slot to Sky Sports
He still has pace for days, his close-control dribbling is mesmerizing and he has shown a new passing range that has unlocked defenses every week so far.
That leads me to the next point, a look at Salah's future with Liverpool.
Liverpool must get terms agreed with Salah
As we have established, Mo Salah is still the most important player in the Reds attack and if anything, he has only elevated his importance.
That Salah talked to Sky Sports following his vintage performance against United on Sunday about it possibly being his last game at Old Trafford is a worrying sign.
Liverpool's No. 11 told the Sky crew he had not been approached by the club yet with any new deal so he was approaching this season as if it were his final with the club. I cannot foresee those comments going unnoticed by the Liverpool hierarchy and hopefully it kicks them into gear.
At this current level, if the club let him walk for free next summer it would be a woeful business decision, not to mention a terrible sporting one.
We are all aware of FSG's trepidation to shatter their wage structure. However, with Salah and also Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk seeking new contracts, that approach is going to have to shift.
First and foremost on the docket should be Salah. He has done more than enough already to suggest he has a lot of time left at the top of the football pyramid and he is enjoying life under Arne.
The arrival of Federico Chiesa on the wing should not deter the club from extending Salah either because as great as the Italian can be on his day, he is still no Salah.
Following a largely inactive summer transfer window, Michael Edwards must reaffirm his own stature within the club and get a new deal done for the Egyptian megastar. It would be foolish business to not get it done sooner than later.
With every stunning goal and assist, Salah sees his price go up and up. Get it done Reds.
