Liverpool have had five players called up for international duty for the upcoming Euros, which begin on Friday, June 14th where Germany will face Scotland.

The players called up for England were Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, along with Diogo Jota heading off to play for Portugal. The Reds have sent three Dutch players off including Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

Examining the Reds with England

This England squad has been the talk of the football world in recent months, with many making the claim that this is the best England team ever fielded.

However, speculation on whether Gareth Southgate is the right man for the job has been floating around as well.

Trent Alexander-Arnold should be played in a central or defensive midfielder position, as Kyle Walker is most likely to start at right back.

This positional change should allow for Trent to get more touches on the ball, which is essential to building his match fitness for the next season under new manager Arne Slot.

Joe Gomez brings an elite level of versatility to the squad, being as he can play any defensive position at an accomplished level.

Gomez has still yet to score a goal, so I'm hoping he can put one in for his country and make the club proud during the competition.

Diogo could be essential for Portugal

As for Diogo Jota, Portugal has an abundance of elite attackers such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Leao, making it difficult for him to break the starting lineup.

Under former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Jota was often subbed in around the 65 minute mark, so it is to be expected he will also be played as a super sub for the Portuguese squad this summer.

Having said that, his natural finishing instincts will still be most welcome in such a hotly contested competition and he could leave is mark.

The Dutch Trio

The bulk of our call ups come from the Netherlands, as we have three players on the international roster.

Virgil van Dijk is perhaps the most notable name on the roster, as he brings a level of professionality, experience, and leadership you want in a center back.

Cody Gakpo has played well for the Reds recently, and I would love to see him build on that form for the Netherlands, preferably as a left winger, as that tends to be where he plays at his best.

Finally, youngster Ryan Gravenberch can be expected to be a solid backup for the Dutch midfield during the Euros.

With Arne Slot taking over operations at the club on Saturday, the players will be keen to impress as they battle it out in the Euros in an effort to prove themselves not only to Slot, but to their fellow countrymen.
