Sunday will mark the culmination of one of the most frustrating seasons Liverpool have had to endure in a very long time. Their Champions League aspirations are not officially locked in, and a positive result against Brentford is needed to get it over the line.
The Reds can finish no higher than fourth in the table in what has been a dismal Premier League title defense this campaign.
We will also see the final Liverpool appearances for Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, who will both be departing the club in the summer following legendary stints at Anfield.
Arne Slot will be desperate to get a good performance on the record heading into another summer of change at the club, and he'll need another piece of evidence to show his worth.
With that in mind, let's see how Liverpool could lineup for the finale against Brentford on Sunday.
Goalkeeper: Giorgi Mamardashvili
Defenders: Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson
Midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai
Forwards: Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz
POSSIBLE SUBS: Rio Ngumoha, Milos Kerkez, Joe Gomez, Federico Chiesa, Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong
Alisson only just returned to training and my hunch is Slot will not want to push him right away in goal.
Defensively, Jeremie Frimpong could be a candidate to start, but I think Jones is an option as he has been called upon more in recent outings and his versatility could be an asset against the Bees.
While Kerkez could very reasonably start, I believe Robertson gets the nod in his final outing for Liverpool, and he could still do a rock solid job in this one. Look for a Kerkez appearance in some capacity though.
The midfield is the trio that we are most familiar with and they should run out one more time to try and end the season on as high a note as they can. All three have had good and bad moments. Macca in particular will want to get some momentum under his belt heading to the World Cup.
Wirtz, who has been battling an illness in recent weeks, could return to the lineup, despite the fine form of Ngumoha out wide. With Isak just returning to training, coming off the bench appeals here.
I could also see a world where Wirtz or Salah are through the middle as well in a a false nine kind of role, but Gakpo still has the favor of Slot, so he will likely start there.
Speaking of Salah, his final appearance for Liverpool is going to be such an emotional time for everyone involved. Despite his recent comments on the direction of the club and the need to return to heavy metal football, he should still start in attack and try and get Brentford on the back foot early.
It's been a difficult campaign for everyone, but ending it with a strong showing against the Bees will at least end it with a positive vibe, even if it were to come too little and too late in the season.
