Seven deals Liverpool could look to complete before the transfer deadline

Liverpool still have plenty of business to resolve before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with a number of deals potentially set to be completed in the final 24 hours of the window. 

The Reds have already confirmed the blockbuster arrival of Bradley Barcola, but the £120m signing may not be the final piece of business conducted by Andoni Iraola’s side. 

Here are seven deals Liverpool could still complete before the deadline. 

1. Ismaïla Sarr - IN 

Ismaïla Sarr could come in. 

Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention towards the Crystal Palace winger after previously considering a move for Yankuba Minteh. Brighton's £80m valuation of Minteh is understood to have pushed the Reds towards Sarr instead. 

Palace reportedly rejected an initial £50m bid for the 28-year-old last Wednesday, despite Sarr being keen on a move away from Selhurst Park before the window closes. 

A reported £75m asking price would represent a significant investment for a 28-year-old, but if Gakpo does leave, Sarr could provide Liverpool with Premier League experience and an immediate replacement. 

For now, he appears to be the leading candidate to arrive at Anfield if Liverpool sanction another major attacking departure. 

2. Federico Chiesa - OUT 

Another potential departure that has been hanging over Liverpool throughout the summer is Federico Chiesa. 

The Italian's first two games under Iraola have been disrupted by injury, limiting his opportunities to establish himself in the new system. 

There has been speculation over a return to Serie A, although time is quickly running out for Liverpool to find a buyer. 

With Barcola now arriving and Liverpool possessing significant attacking depth, Chiesa could find his route into the starting XI even more difficult. 

However, a deadline-day exit appears increasingly complicated given how little time remains. 

3. Jamie Leweling - IN 

If Liverpool decide against spending £75m on Sarr, Jamie Leweling could represent a significantly cheaper alternative. 

The Stuttgart winger has reportedly emerged as another option for Liverpool as they search for additional depth on the right side of the attack. 

The 25-year-old has also been linked with a late loan move to Roma, potentially complicating Liverpool's chances of getting a deal done. 

Nevertheless, with the market running out of time and Liverpool potentially needing another winger if Gakpo departs, Leweling could emerge as a last-minute alternative. 

It would certainly be a more cautious investment than spending £75m on a 28-year-old. 

4. James McConnell - OUT 

Liverpool's midfield could also see some movement before the deadline. 

James McConnell has spent the opening two games of the season on the bench after returning from a loan spell at Ajax last season, with the 21-year-old reportedly close to joining Preston North End on a season-long loan. 

However, following Curtis Jones' departure, Liverpool's midfield depth has already taken a significant hit. 

A loan would offer him regular first-team football, but Liverpool may decide that having another midfielder available is more valuable during the first half of the season. 

5. Harvey Elliott - OUT 

Harvey Elliott is another player whose future remains uncertain. 

Valencia, Napoli and Lazio have all reportedly shown interest in taking the midfielder on loan, with Valencia appearing particularly keen. 

Elliott's versatility could make him useful to Iraola, with the 23-year-old capable of operating centrally or from the wing. 

James Pearce has reported that Elliott has spoken to Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán about his potential role should a move to Spain materialise. 

A loan could therefore give Elliott the minutes he needs while allowing Liverpool to retain control over his long-term future. 

6. Giorgi Mamardashvili - OUT 

Liverpool could also receive a late approach for Giorgi Mamardashvili, with Nottingham Forest reportedly having made an enquiry for the Georgian goalkeeper as they continue to search for another option between the posts. 

Mamardashvili joined Liverpool with the expectation of eventually becoming their long-term No.1, but with Alisson still firmly established as Iraola's first choice, another loan spell could potentially make sense, especially one where he could gain vital experience as the no.1 for a Premier League side.  

The key question is whether Liverpool would be comfortable losing their experienced backup at such a late stage. 

7. Lucca Brughmans - IN 

If Mamardashvili does leave, Liverpool would need to consider their goalkeeping depth. 

That could open the door for 18-year-old Lucca Brughmans. 

The goalkeeper, who recently arrived in a £35m deal, is expected to return to Genk on a season-long loan before joining Liverpool in 2027, but a Mamardashvili departure could force Liverpool to reconsider those plans. 

Bringing Brughmans to Anfield early would give Iraola a young backup option behind Alisson while allowing Liverpool to avoid entering the market for another goalkeeper at the last minute. 

It would be an unexpected deadline-day twist, but one that could become necessary if Forest's interest in Mamardashvili develops into a concrete offer.
