Should Liverpool take Robbie Fowler's advice and consider Christian Pulisic?

While Liverpool have been linked with some high profile wingers in the early transfer window such as Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola, club legend and all-time leading scorer Robbie Fowler thinks they are looking in the wrong places.

If Fowler had his way, the Reds would be actively pursuing United States national team captain and AC Milan winger, Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic has been linked to Liverpool in the past under Jurgen Klopp, so there is at least some history of interest between the club and player to recall on this.

Mohamed Salah must be replaced this summer, and Fowler has added an interesting name into the pot for consideration.

Robbie Fowler wants Christian Pulisic at Anfield

The suggestion from Fowler came via his post on X on the idea of the American being an option to return to the Premier League after his time with Chelsea saw him score some big goals for the Blues.

Fowler made his case; "Plenty of rumors about as to who's going to LFC, one name I've not seen mentioned is Pulisic...good age, played in the prem, exciting player, I'd take him, potentially a Salah type of pathway, thoughts?"

There is no denying that Pulisic is a really good player. He can even be electric at times. His recent second half return for the United States at the World Cup against Türkiye showed just how impactful he can be when he is fit and firing.

There comes one of the biggest concerns. At 27, in what should be his peak athletic years, USA's No. 10 has yet to shake the consistent injury bug in his career. Namely, soft tissue issues.

Having said that, since arriving in Italy, he has scored 42 goals and assisted a further 27 in his 134 appearances for the Rossoneri. His 2025/26 form dipped slightly in Serie A action, registering 12 G/A in league play.

However, in the two seasons prior, he posted back-to-back 20 G/A Serie A returns from his wing position. A more than respectable number in his position competing against some of the best.

A cheaper alternative with big-game experience

As of this writing, Pulisic's value fluctuates around the £35 million mark. That is nearly identical to what Liverpool just spent to secure the services of 22-year old Victor Munoz form Osasuna.

Now, the potential upside and growth that we could see from the Spaniard makes that price even better, especially if he really explodes into the next levels of his game.

Looking at Pulisic, he is a great player that has played in some huge games for his country, and still is at the World Cup right now, as well as having real Champions League experiences as well. He played in Chelsea's 2021 Champions League final win, becoming the first American man to play in a UCL final.

He has played for his country 87 times, and scored 33 goals with 21 assists. Oftentimes, he is the focal point of the attack and has been the sole source of creation until only the last few years.

He's been labeled with the 'Captain America" mantle for years now, and has carried himself in a professional way and still produced in crucial moments for both club and country.

Pulisic does have the ability to make an impact at Liverpool

When you go through his resume, it's abundantly clear that Christian Pulisic is a very talented player.

If he is not on the physio table rehabbing, he's usually creating chances or coming up in a clutch moment. It's easy to see why Fowler wants the club to pursue him.

Pulisic is a proven entity and we know his makeup. Diomande, while extremely gifted, has been on a meteoric rise for all of one season. For the Reds, this summer is crucial in setting the foundation for the Andoni Iraola era. Bringing in a top-class pro like Pulisic should not be looked down at.

Does he have typical electric winger pace? No. He makes up for it with his football IQ and ability to read the game and put himself in the correct positions.

He wants to get forward, as he is constantly a progressive carrier of the ball. He has good technical skills on the ball as well and can pick out a dangerous pass from nothing.

If Liverpool were to sign him, it should not be the end of their business though. Pulisic is not at the level of prime Salah, nor will he ever be. But, with one year left on his AC Milan deal, a deal could be made.

However, if Iraola and the club want to go the volume candidate route, getting roughly 20-25 G/A from Pulisic, 15-20 G/A from Munoz and having Rio Ngumoha step up alongside another solid arrival, Liverpool could be in a really good spot across all competitions.

The American star would not be the face of the Liverpool attack. But, at roughly £35 million, he could bring a proven track record and ability to rise in big moments. That has to at least be considered.
