As we inch closer to another edition of Liverpool versus Manchester United, the anticipation just continues to build.

The Reds are eager to right the ship following a slight dip in form just before the international break that saw them knocked from the top spot in the Premier League table. What better place to begin then with a win over your bitter rivals?

In order to do that, Arne Slot is going to need to see several players raise their levels once again and hit the heights we know they are capable of touching.

These Liverpool players having a good outing on Sunday will be essential to securing the maximum points from the match.

Virgil van Dijk

This might be obious, but it is also true. With Ibrahima Konate battling an injury that did not allow him to show out for France, he will at best not be 100% if he does play.

A hobbled Konate would mean that van Dijk would need to be at the top of his game reading things before they happened to make sure he is able to compensate for his younger half not having the same athleticism to solve certain problems.

If Joe Gomez gets the nod, the Dutchman will have a huge load on his plate as Gomez has not played very well in his limited opportunities this season and would be challenged by the United attack.

In times of frustration and dips in results like we are seeing, you need your leaders to sometimes drag you out of those doldrums. There are few leaders in world football that are more suited to this task than van Dijk.

While the Red Devils are not elite, they have several attackers that can pose a threat in the form of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Dominik Szoboszlai

The Hungarian midfielder should be returning to Anfield buoyed by strong performances for his nation that saw him score and create goals.

He's been one of Liverpool's best players in the early going this season and his positional and tactical versatility have been huge lifts to an injury ravaged side.

If he's allowed to play further forward in this one, he could be instrumental in carving open a vulnerable United defense with his aggressive passing range in combination with long range strikes on goal.

Even if he is relegated to a super sub role, his energy and strong work rate will make him a nuisance for Ruben Amorim's men.

Szoboszlai is a dynamic player and he can make something from nothing almost anywhere on the pitch, and in fierce matches like this one tends to be, that is an invaluable trait to have on offer.

Alexander Isak/Hugo Ekitike

We're going with a double down here as the Reds attack will rest largely on what these two guys do on Sunday whenever they are on the pitch.

While Isak is the record signing, he's made a slower start to life in red as he has steadily gotten back into match shape. Whereas we have seen Ekitike hit the ground running and score some big goals for the club already.

While the Frenchman moves better than Isak, it is the Swede who offers the more consistent finishing technique on a match by match basis.

Both players love to drive at defenders in their own right and gets shots away from all angles, and this is the kind of thinking we need to see from both. Mohamed Salah is fantastic, but he needs help shouldering the scoring burden and these two are the most likely to pick up the torch.

A goal or two from one or both of these players should coincide with a Liverpool win and the confidence would surely return swiftly to the side.

We are all eagerly waiting for Isak to truly breakthrough and show us why we spent the whole summer chasing after his signature. A strong showing against our rivals would be an ideal place to start.
