In what was one of the more surprising announcements of the Summer Transfer Window, Liverpool has appeared to make a massive acquisition to the squad, in the form of Roberto Firmino.  The Brazilian had emerged as a star during his time in Germany with Hoffenheim and had been linked to a move to the Barclays Premier League for several weeks.  However, few believed that the Reds would win the race to bring the Brazilian to England.

It appeared for all the world that Liverpool would lose out to Manchester United on yet another big target. First, it was Memphis Depay.  Now, it appeared it was going to be Firmino.  However, ESPN FC is reporting that Liverpool has agreed to a deal with the Brazilian and the move will be made official after a medical.  If the reports are true, this could be turning into a very productive transfer window for Liverpool.

The reports suggest that Firmino will cost Liverpool approximately £29 million and will be the second most expensive transfer fee in the history of the club, only behind Andy Carroll.  Roberto Firmino had emerged as a star during his time in the German Bundesliga.  The Brazilian scored seven goals and contributed 10 assists for Hoffenheim last season.  The previous season, Firmino was even better, scoring 16 times and adding 11 assists.  Liverpool will be hoping that his rampant form continues in the Premier League.

Firmino has not only been a star at the club level, his recent exploits with Brazil in Chile at the Copa America have only served to confirm the incredible ability of the player.  So far in the competition, Firmino has taken part in all three games for Brazil, starting two.  Brazil finished top of their group, thanks in large part to a goal courtesy of Firmino against Venezuela.

It will be interesting to see what is in store for Firmino in Chile for the rest of Copa America.  Without Neymar for the remainder of the competition, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho is expected to take the place of the Brazilian superstar.  The connection between Firmino and Coutinho will develop this summer and could evolve into a dynamic duo for Liverpool next season.  Fans of Brazil will be hoping that Coutinho and Firmino can lead their National Neam to Copa America glory.  Fans of the Reds will be keeping a close eye on the Brazilian duo at the Copa America for the next few weeks.
