Liverpool vs Arsenal: Rio Ferdinand shuts down Martin Keown’s dig at Reds
Of course Arsenal legend Martin Keown has had a dig at Liverpool after the two sides drew 1-1 at the Emirates stadium in the Premier League.
Using his platform on BT Sport, the ex-Gunners defender criticized the Reds and let the world know that he doesn’t think they have the stones to win the Premier League.
Keown was discussing the result with Rio Ferdinand, and commented that Liverpool should have come away from north London with a win just because Manchester City managed to on the first game of the season.
The two retired defenders didn’t see eye-to-eye on this point, as Ferdinand countered that Arsenal were a very different side back in September and that a draw would have pleased Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

According to Keown, Liverpool weren’t at their best on Saturday afternoon – yet they still came away from the game with a point. And as Ferdinand correctly pointed out, title winners keep their tally increasing even if they don’t play well.
You’ve just been shut down Martin!
The truth is that the Gunners are a much improved side from early in the season and new gaffer Unai Emery has got the side playing excellent, dangerous football.
Klopp would have been privately disappointed at conceding late, even if the German sang a different tune in public.
The lads have now played four of the big six and are yet to lose a game. Defensively they’ve been excellent, and kept Manchester City to a clean sheet while only conceding one against Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
They might not have all been wins, but Premier League title chasers don’t lose those massive fixtures and the Reds haven’t.
A range of opinions always keeps things interesting, and it was strangely wonderful to listen to Ferdinand – a Manchester United legend – support the Reds and shut down Keown.
