Virgil van Dijk’s nemesis wants Liverpool to win the Premier League after games were suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Nobody knows what’s going to happen in the next few weeks, never mind the next few months. Will we be able to play football before June, July or even August? If you claim to have the answer to these questions, you’re lying.

But one thing is for sure: even Virgil van Dijk’s nemesis wants Liverpool to be handed the Premier League title. The Express has reported that Watford striker Troy Deeney thinks ‘everyone wants to see them (us) win it now, they’ve been great.’

This is coming from a man who routinely gets bullied by the big Dutchman and has gone on record to say how much he hates playing van Dijk.

However, Deeney recognises that anything other than resuming the season and allowing Liverpool to win the title would be madness. This isn’t a race that’s going to be decided by the slimmest of margins. Jurgen Klopp’s team are already 25 points ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

This stance will allow the trickier questions of 2019/2020 to be answered. For example, there are two points separating 18th and 15th. Bournemouth, Brighton, West Ham and Southampton are all fighting to avoid relegation and that’s something that would normally go down to the wire.

At the other end, there are only five points between Manchester United in fifth and Arsenal in ninth. There is still a lot of play for – and it would only be right to see the campaign through, crown Liverpool victories and see where the chips fall for the rest of it.

Players like Virgil van Dijk have been so outstanding this season that calling this one null and void, striking it from the record books and telling the public to disregard the entire thing wouldn’t be a fair representation of the superhuman efforts of this squad.

He might be van Dijk’s nemesis, but you have to respect Deeney for his public stance.
