Liverpool play Crystal Palace on Wednesday and Virgil van Dijk will be key.

After the disappointing start to the restarted season, Jurgen Klopp will try to inject some life and dynamism and action into the forward line.

Mohamed Salah didn’t start against Everton on Wednesday and Liverpool badly missed his ability to conjure something from nothing.

Takumi Mimamino did reasonably well in his place, but replacing Salah is a thankless task and he was removed at half-time for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Palace started their season (again) with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth and will be looking to Wilfried Zaha for inspiration as they try to come to Anfield and take all three points.

Former England manager Roy Hodgson has got the side working for each other, but Zaha is their joker in the pack and it’ll take all the nous of the Virgil van Dijk lead defence to stop the Ivory Coast international.

James Milner and Joel Matip are set to miss the game after they picked up injuries against Everton, so Liverpool will put out a changed side to the one that took the field on Sunday.

However, the objective will remain the same: three points. Manchester City have shown the way to go thanks to their two thrilling performances, and Klopp will want to get the side up and running.

A victory, any victory, will do the job here. Three points and a calming of the nerves are what the doctor ordered, and it’ll give Liverpool the chance to win the Premier League by beating City.
