Liverpool fans are demanding Thiago.
The Spaniard played a key role as Bayern Munich decimated his old side to reach the semi-final of the Champions League.
Goals from Thomas Muller, Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandoswki and Philippe Coutinho handed the Bavarians an incredible 8-2 win over Barcelona.
Thiago may not have scored or registered an assist, but he still helped run the midfield in one of the most remarkable Champions League results ever.
This game displayed contrasting fortunes for two former Liverpool stars, as Coutinho came on against his parent side and assisted Lewandowski’s goal before striking twice – while Luis Suarez scored once in a pointless effort at goal.
Jurgen Klopp doesn’t place a huge amount of importance on his midfield contributing goals and assists, and they don’t need to if the front three can purr like Munich’s did.
Thiago was constantly available, normally in space, barely put a foot wrong and kept the ball moving forward. It was pretty much the perfect midfield performance by Klopp’s standards and if the Liverpool recruitment team wasn’t keeping a keen eye on this you’d be very surprised.
We’ve seen a lot of will-they-won’t-they over this deal. According to various sources, the Spanish midfielder will be available for just €30 million and on the basis of this performance, that price looks like a steal.
His injury record has been used against Thiago, and that will definitely be something that needs to be considered before the club opt to spend big on a 29-year-old.
Speaking to The Athletic’s podcast on Liverpool, former left-back Stephan Warnock and journalist Simon Hughes even mentioned that Thiago’s arrival could push Fabinho back into defence to act as the fourth-choice central defender -while Marko Grujic has also been mentioned as a candidate for that role.
On the basis on the Munich’s man performance in the Champions League so far, Liverpool should do everything can to bring him in.
