Tottenham want Liverpool star Rhian Brewster.

Football Insider has reported that Spurs are interested in bringing in the Liverpool starlet in an ambitious move.

One of Tottenham’s biggest problems is finding an understudy to Harry Kane and the article suggests that Jose Mourinho feels Rhian Brewster could fill that gap.

After impressing during his loan spell with Swansea City – where he scored 11 goals in 22 games – the starlet is due a move to the Premier League to test himself.

Spurs have let their own highly rated youngster Troy Parrot leave for Millwall for a season and are lacking in striking options.

Brewster featured during the first preseason game of the campaign and scored as Liverpool beat Stuttgart 3-0.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will almost certainly want him to go out on loan as the side is looking well stocked in forward areas. There’ll need to be one or two sales to rebalance the issue, especially with Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri fighting for the honour of being Mohamed Salah’s back-up.

One massive concern over sending Brewster on loan to Tottenham would be his game time. When Kane is fit, he starts, and Mourinho doesn’t play with two forwards.

Granted, Kane has suffered from injury problems in the past but sending someone on loan as a backup is a recipe for a wasted season. It’s in this sense that Spurs bidding for Brewster is highly ambitious.

It’s important that the youngster plays regular football for a fairly stable side this season – we’ve previously written about how Brewster needs to avoid falling into the trap that Abraham did when he spent a campaign struggling with Swansea.

It’s a mark of how highly rated the player is that Tottenham are willing to bring him in as someone who can step up to the mark when Kane is injured, though, and speaks volumes about the type of player Liverpool have right now.
