Liverpool have submitted a bid for Marcelo Pitaluga.

Brazilian newsletter Globo Esporte have confirmed that the Reds want to sign the 17-year-old, who is yet to make his debut for Fluminense.

Globo Esporte wrote that they confirmed the news, that was first presented by journalist Nicolò Schira, and that the decision was in the hands of the club board.

Fluminense President Mário Bittencourt has spoken about the need to sell players because of the financial crisis caused by COVID-19, stated GE, who are confident the bid will be accepted.

We’ve seen South American players come to England and struggle to find a work permit. Allan was one, and he’s been sold back to Brazil, while left-back Anderson Arroyo is another.

Marcelo Pitaluga won’t have to worry about that, as he holds a German passport. In order to smooth over negotiations, GE wrote that Liverpool have offered his dad a job and will find them a house!

He’s tall, too, and stands at nearly 200cm tall and has been training with the first team while playing in the U20 side. Alisson Becker went back to Brazil and trained with Fluminense – which included a picture with Pitalunga at the end of the session.

We’ve seen Liverpool really ramp up their recruitment of foreign youngsters. They already have ‘the next Robert Lewandowski‘ through the door, in the shape of Mateusz Musiałowski.

Goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek is another new arrival, while Germany U16 international Melkamu Frauendorf has also joined the club.

Clubs all around the world are being impacted by COVID-19, and it seems like Liverpool are content to use this time to pick off the best young talent from sides around the world.

While other Premier League sides are spending big, FSG are keeping their cards close to their chest – expect for their recruitment for the U23 and U18 teams.
