The January transfer window has come and gone for Liverpool FC, but the rumors regarding this upcoming summer rage on. While the Reds have been linked to West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen, they are now connected to the other engine in WHU’s machine.

Declan Rice can provide Liverpool with youth and versatility.

West Ham United’s Declan Rice is quite a unique talent. Primarily a defensive mid, he also possesses an uncanny ability to attack.

Moreover, he does present the ability to contribute from long-range and set-pieces alike. Regarding where he could fit in, Jürgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 remains to be seen. However, he would be a welcome midfield addition considerably younger than Jordan Henderson and James Milner. While some have mentioned him as a CB, it is simply not a role the 23-year-old can fulfill in a starting XI as of now. Down the line, yes, it could be something potentially a team can expand upon, but for LFC, his potential addition this summer means more.

A signing of Declan Rice would signify a youth movement for the Reds.

As players like Henderson, Milner, and Roberto Firmino approach pivotal career points in terms of age, availability, and production for Liverpool, it is apparent that there needs to be an investment into the future sooner rather than later. While the signing of Luis Diaz is magnificent in all ways, the pending agreement of Fulham standout Fabio Carvalho is another indication that the Reds are actively looking to get younger. While also linked to Arsenal’s 20-year old, Bukayo Saka, LFC, can kick off the next great young wave of talent.

This is important, as Salah and Mane are still under contract; it affords the youth to grow with them. Finally, an addition of Declan Rice would be wise more than just from a talent standpoint and would fit in with the Reds’ plan to get younger while remaining competitive.
