Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably seen the entire Arne Slot vs Mohamed Salah spat. It's been covered to its very core already, and there's absolutely no avoiding it.
Honestly, that rock now sounds pretty tempting, doesn't it?
Anyway, Alisson, one of the more senior figures at Liverpool who has been through thick and thin at the club, has had his say. It really is a shame that we live in an age where players are expected to comment on their teammate's actions, but alas, here we are.
The Liverpool goalkeeper has made his stance crystal clear. He wishes Mohamed Salah well, but he has always, and will always side with Liverpool.
Alisson is 100% right about Mohamed Salah's drama with Liverpool
In his own words, Alisson said: "[Mohamed Salah] not being available is a consequence of what he did and he is smart enough to know that."
Wow. Talk about saying it how it is.
It's quite refreshing to see a player speak from the heart for once. Nowadays, athletes are PR-trained to the nth degree, for good reason, but it means that fans of the game feel a disconnect.
Even in a PR age, Alisson did what any respectable club figurehead would do by speaking his mind. Fans make the sport what it is, and Alisson did an excellent job at bridging the gap and speaking the mind of (some) Liverpool fans.
There is, obviously, a divide between the Liverpool fanbase right now. It wouldn't be soccer without it, right?
On the one hand, some Liverpool fans would argue that Mohamed Salah is within his own right to speak about the injustice he feels. That is true. Of course, if Salah feels like there is an injustice, then he should absolutely say that.
However, others would retort to that and say the way that Salah has gone about it is not the correct way. The Liverpool legend has been dropped for one simple reason: he's been bad. The Premier League champions should not field bad players, regardless of how many goals that bad player scored when he was good.
Taking a step back and looking at this holistically, it's easy to agree with Alisson. Salah throwing his toys out of the pram is downright disrespectful to his teammates who, frankly, have warranted game time more than he has this season.
In instances like this, the club should be supported, not the player. Bravo, Alisson.
