In what may be his final appearance at Anfield, Darwin Nunez continued his fine pre-season form, tucking home a headed cross early in the first half against Athletic Club Bilbao on Monday.

His celebration seemed telling, simultaneously basking in the crowd and tapping the club badge.

With Liverpool still in the market for Alexander Isak's services, the Uruguayan's days at Anfield are likely numbered. Here are the latest developments.

Al Hilal heavily interested

Late last week, news broke from David Ornstein that Saudi club Al Hilal have identified the forward as their priority target at striker this window and that they are now making an effort to sign him.

He clarified that, though no bid has been placed, they have 'accelerated' internal plans to bring in Nunez, due to their opinion that he is a good fit for new manager Simone Inzaghi's system.

Perhaps most important to this transfer progressing is Ornstein's assertion that Nunez is receptive to the possibility of moving to the Saudi club.

Fabrizio Romano also stated that the club has presented an official proposal to Nunez and Liverpool are now awaiting a bid. He also stated that he does not see an agreement being reached between the two clubs as something that would pose a problem.

As things stand, it now seems that Al Hilal are the most likely destination for the striker, should his exit come to fruition.

AC Milan also interested

Following up these reports about Saudi interest in Nunez was also news that Italian giants AC Milan are also interested in the divisive forward.

Per Gianluca Di Marzio, the striker is Milan's first choice for a striker addition this summer.

Additionally, Di Marzio also stated that they have already spoken with the player and that they plan to seriously try to make this transfer happen.

This was echoed by Vinny O'Connor, who reported they have made an initial approach to sign him but that they have not lodged an official bid yet.

However, Orstein's reporting functioned to pour cold water on this rumor. He stated that Milan have shown an interest in signing Nunez but that it is unlikely they can match or exceed the financial package Al Hilal could present.

That is not to disparage or discredit the work of Di Marzio or O'Connor, but Ornstein's information likely takes precedent.

There is still plenty of time for things to change, and things can change in an instant when it comes to the transfer market, but all signs point to Al Hilal being the frontrunners for Nunez, with AC Milan a distant second.
