With the new Barclays Women's Super League season fast approaching, Liverpool Women squad is starting to take shape.
This includes plenty of new signings for Gareth Taylor, but also a few departures too.
The latest player leaving was announced on Thursday afternoon and that is Hannah Silcock.
The Reds confirmed that the 21 year old has departed to join Everton "for an undisclosed fee". Silcock was far from a key figure, so this is not overly surprising, but is still a difficult choice for her to make. A childhood Liverpool fan, she joined the club at the age of eight, accumulating 22 senior appearances for the Reds, including being part of the squad that won the FA Women's Championship title in 2021/22, her debut campaign.
Silcock was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers in 2023/24 before, after never really establishing herself as a key figure back at Liverpool, joining Birmingham City on loan in January. She then made just four appearances for the Blues, as they won the WSL2 title and gained promotion to the top-flight.
Now though, she will get the chance to prove herself at WSL level again by signing for Everton. Scott Phelan's team finished eighth in the table last season, three place and six points better off than their cross city rivals. 27 September will be a surreal expirence for Silcock, assuming she features, wearing a blue shirt at Anfield against Liverpool for the derby. The return fixture at Goodison is scheduled for late-March.
On the men's side, in the modern era, crossing Stanley Park is extremely uncommon. Abel Xavier in 2002 is the most-recent man to join Liverpool from Everton of vice versa. However, on the women's side, playing for both clubs is a lot more common. Current Arsenal left-back Taylor Hinds represented both halves of Merseyside before moving to North London last summer.
Meantime, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Melissa Lawley, Becky Flaherty, Eartha Cumings Budd and Emily Ramsey have all crossed the divide in recent years. Canadian goalkeeper Rylee Foster, who rejoined Everton from Halifax Tides FC earlier this month, has "You'll Never Walk Alone" tattooed on her arm, but this is the second time she has signed for the Blues. Thus, upon her return to Anfield next month, do not expect Silcock to be given anything like a hostile reception!
