Darwin Núñez is now bound to leave Liverpool and sign for Al Hilal, as Fabrizio Romano has issued his infamous 'here we go' green light label.
We previously reported that Al Hilal and Liverpool had reached a verbal agreement over the sale of Darwin Núñez. This meant that a large chunk of the deal had been completed and now, the ball was in Darwin's court.
At the time, fans were sceptical about whether Darwin would voluntarily leave Liverpool. After all, he seems to have the world at his disposal in Merseyside, and the fans have had his back throughout it all.
Darwin Núñez agrees to join Al Hilal
Now, though, Darwin is bound to leave Liverpool after agreeing on terms to sign for Al-Hilal. While there were whispers beforehand, Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Darwin had struck an agreement with the Saudi Pro League, and now he's leaving Liverpool.
In his own words, Romano said: "Darwin Núñez to Al Hilal, here we go! Verbal agreement has been completed between all parties. €53m plus add-ons to Liverpool as revealed today, 3 year deal for Núñez. Núñez said yes and Inzaghi only wanted him. Medical next."
Liverpool fans won't look back in anger
For Liverpool fans, this is hardly a heartbreaking farewell. Liverpool fans will not miss what Darwin provided, but they'll more be thinking 'what if?'
Look, Darwin hardly flopped at Liverpool. That would be an unfair assessment, and it's baffling that this is the word rival fans choose to use.
Was Darwin £85 million good? No, he wasn't. But he also didn't choose his own price tag.
Liverpool chose to pay this price, so it's probably on them that Darwin didn't live up to the price tag. The Reds jumped the gun, and they signed a player who wasn't quite cut out for the upper echelon of European football.
But that's not to say that Darwin was a bad player. He was a great striker, who achieved great things at Liverpool. Leaving with a Premier League medal around his neck, he'll hardly regret the move to Liverpool.
Now, the South American is jetting off to the third continent of his playing career, Asia. He's joining one of the most exciting leagues in the world, and this serves as yet another reminder that the Saudi Pro League is serious about becoming the crème de la crème.
Next up, fans can only hope that his replacement is Alexander Isak.
