Liverpool are ready to pounce for England defender to replace Jarell Quansah

The Reds are reportedly once again wasting little time in finding a replacement for a soon to departed part of their defense.

With reports confirming that Liverpool are on the precipice of selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million, the Reds are wasting little time in seeking out a like-for-like replacement.

England defender and newly crowned FA Cup winner Marc Guehi is the man of the hour as Liverpool have seemingly honed in on the 24-year old Crystal Palace man.

It's expected the funds from the Quansah deal will make up a large portion of the offer that is presented to Palace in the coming days.

An expiring contract bodes well for a deal

As important as Guehi is to Crystal Palace, and make no mistake he has been a huge piece to their puzzle that finally secured silverware, he is entering the final 12 months of his contract for the London based club and the big boys are circling in the water now.

While clubs such as Tottenham and Newcastle United have vested interests in bringing the Three Lions defender to their clubs, it's Anfield that has his eye.

Sky Sports is reporting that a strong bid from the Reds for the defender is imminent as they once again prove their ruthless efficiency this summer under the new regime.

There have already been talks between the player's representatives and Liverpool as Guehi is ready to take the next step in his career after helping deliver a trophy to a starved fan base.

The cost will be interesting as last summer Palace rejected a £60 million bid for him, but now in his final year and pushing for a move, how far will that come down? It could prove to be astute business once again from FSG.

An upgrade from Quansah for pennies on the dollar

Whereas Quansah has had an up-and-down two seasons with the Liverpool first team, Guehi is already a proven international and one of the most rock solid defenders in the Premier League.

What's even more shocking to some is that Guehi is still only 24, a mere two years older than the reportedly departing Quansah but with more than double the top level experience.

He would be an immediate upgrade and challenger for Ibrahima Konate to keep raising his game which in the long run would only benefit everyone involved. His game reading and ability to win one-on-one battles would make him a strong fit in Arne Slot's system.

He is a sure tackler that plays with a confidence and composure that is needed to defend at the highest level against all styles and opponents.

Guehi also has an underrated talent when on the ball and can work his way out of some tight situations at the back before moving things forward into a counter attack. Once again, a dream option in a Slot team.
