Man United wants to make life as difficult as possible for Liverpool. They may be prolonging the Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer.
Ever since the end of last month, Liverpool has been linked to a move for Alexander Isak. Admittedly, it was a transfer that nobody saw coming, but the Reds have been splashing the cash all summer long.
Not splashing the cash recklessly, mind. Arne Slot has strengthened exactly where he needs to strengthen and the Liverpool board is not done there.
If Liverpool pulls off the Alexander Isak transfer, the Premier League might as well be etched with their name again.
Man United wants to sign Benjamin Šeško
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Man United is involved in a locked-horn battle with Newcastle United for Benjamin Šeško, who was once thought to be Newcastle's Isak replacement.
Romano claims that Man United submitted a bid to show their serious intentions to RB Leipzig. What's more is that Šeško is believed to prefer a move to Man United over Newcastle.
Man United obviously needs all the help they can get. They had a woeful campaign last time out, and should strengthen their entire starting eleven and bench. However, one can't help but feel like chasing Šeško has a hidden motive.
Man United may throw a spanner in Liverpool's plan
Indeed, if Man United were to sign Šeško, this would leave Newcastle without a backup option for Alexander Isak. It will mean one of two things for Liverpool: Either Newcastle will delay selling Isak, or they'll up their asking price to afford a replacement. Neither is an ideal situation for Liverpool.
It's a huge surprise to everyone that Šeško would even consider moving to Man United, let alone preferring a move over Newcastle.
Man United would have been relegated last season if it weren't for the bottom three teams being awful. This is a far cry from the "biggest team in the world" they once dubbed themselves as.
Newcastle, on the other hand, is in arguably its most exciting time period in history. Last season, they won the EFL Cup (we won't mention who against) and qualified for the Champions League again.
So, the Newcastle project should be more exciting than the Man United downfall.
However, unfortunately, there will always be a pull factor for Man United. This time, it may inadvertently work against Liverpool in their race to sign Alexander Isak.
