Early Sunday both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein confirmed that Liverpool have finally relented in their stance on Luis Diaz and have accepted a €75 million offer from German giants Bayern Munich.

The Reds already rejected one transfer offer from Bayern and another earlier in the summer from Barcelona as they were firm in their stance he was not for sale. However, the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, along with the potential of adding Alexander Isak, meant the forward room was going to be very crowded.

So, after three and half years with the club, Diaz will be making the move to Germany.

The Deal

As mentioned above, Bayern Munich came back with a strong second offer for €75m (£65.5m) that the Reds simply could not refuse.

He will be following in the footsteps of Sadio Mane making the trip to Munich from Liverpool as he has agreed to a four-year contract with his new club that will see him get a multi-million euro per season raise from what he makes currently at Liverpool.

Diaz had two years remaining on his Liverpool contract and was displeased when an extension was not put on the table, which led to his desire for a move as he felt disrespected by the club.

It's a healthy return on investment for Liverpool as they signed Lucho in Janurary 2022 from Porto for an initial fee of £37.5m, So, this fee 3 years later is a nice boost to the coffers in a summer spending bonanza.

Arne Slot confirmed the reason Diaz did not play in Liverpool's friendly loss to AC Milan on Saturday was for transfer talks.

"There are a lot of rumors around it lately, and I cannot go into that. He is training really well with us, but we have decided, for now, not to play him yet." said Slot.

Not 24 hours later, the clubs had agreed to a transfer fee for the Colombian to take the next step in his career.

A Huge Success Story

Diaz made 148 appearances in all comps for Liverpool where he scored 41 goals to go with 23 assists over his time.

Early returns showed his end product was lacking just a bit, but his energy and direct ball carrying unlocked other aspects of the Reds' attack.

However, he was coming off of his best season with the club as he registered 17 goals and 8 assists across the board during the 2024/25 campaign. His value was never going to be higher at 28 years old coming off of his best season.

He won the Premier League, 2 League Cups, the FA Cup and one Community Shield during his time with Liverpool as one of the focal points of their forward line.

He will now bring a tidy profit to the club and get to be one of the main men at Bayern Munich. It's a win across the board for everyone involved.
