Just three games into the season and Liverpool face their biggest rivals in what is the biggest match in any Premier League calender.
Manchester United has opened the season with a win and a loss. In neither of the two games did they show much improvement from last season's play. Small pieces of interplay here and there tease the United fans into believing they are improving.
Let’s look at the different areas of the potential Man United lineup and how Liverpool may be able to take advantage of it.
How Man United Could Lineup and How it Will Affect Liverpool
Man Utd Defence/Liverpool Attack:
Potential Man United Defence – A. Onana; N. Mazraoui, M. De Ligt, L. Martinez, D. Dalot.
With this defence, it feels like Liverpool and Arne Slot can look to exploit the lack of explosive pace and the lack of premier league experience on the right-hand side of the defence.
Having Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah on the wings will cause many full-backs problems, but up against two who aren’t renowned for their pace and a right-back who has not faced Luis Diaz's trickery, the wide areas of attack could prove vital in this game.
Slot may also look to exploit the lack of explosive pace in the two central defenders and Lisandro Martinez's height. Having Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo as options in the central areas is good for many matches in the Premier League, but for a game like this against defenders like these, Darwin Nunez is the ideal candidate.
The pressure he can apply, his pace and height, and his chaotic nature will unsettle the two centre-backs and cause them problems. The same issues for Man United are there, even if Harry Maguire were to play.
Potential Liverpool Front Three: L.Diaz, D. Nuñez, M. Salah.
