Predicted Liverpool Starting XI for Premier League match versus Newcastle
Liverpool roll on in the Premier League as they are set to travel to one of the tougher venues in England, St. James Park, to meet with Newcastle United.
The Reds are flying high off convincing victories over Real Madrid and Manchester City so the confidence should be sky-high. However, the Magpies away is always a tricky fixture and Arne Slot will need to have his side locked in from the get-go.
Liverpool will be without a few defenders for this one as Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate picked up several week injuries in the past week. With several other key names still out, Slot should have a clear picture of who he wants starting.
Let's take a look at how Liverpool could lineup for this important Premier League matchup on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper: Caoimhin Kelleher
Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold. Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson
Midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones
Forwards: Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo
Probable Subs: Dominik Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz, Wataru Endo, Federico Chiesa
Kelleher has proven himself time and again in goal and he should be one of the first names penciled in each match.
Trent and Robertson retrain their spots on either side of the defense as their counterparts, Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas, miss out with injury. Following his strong performance against City, I fully expect Gomez to retain his starting role for the time being.
Looking in the midfield, Jones starting should hopefully see Mac Allister moved further upfield while Jones plays alongside the outstanding Gravenberch.
As usual, Salah is a must-start option for Liverpool as he was once again the difference maker on Sunday. Nunez was impactful in his cameo against City and he deserves the start here. He should have good memories from last season's fixture here. Gakpo is scoring too much that he must start as well.
The Reds should have more than enough to take down Newcastle based on recent form and the sheer talent all over the pitch.
You can't take anything for granted but this feels like a match where we might see an unexpected scorer, perhaps Jones or van Dijk. It would also be nice to see a Chiesa appearance as he has reportedly been on a strict training program to prepare him for the English game and he is now available right away.
20-25 minutes from the Italian would be good to see as we shift into a very hectic December fixture list.
