Predicting Liverpool's next five Premier League matches

With Liverpool in the middle of a run of five important games, let’s try and predict the scores of the Reds’ upcoming Premier League games.

From Manchester to Birmingham, Arne Slot’s Reds will be travelling up and down the land over the coming weeks, as they continue their pursuit of the Premier League title.

Let’s try to consider whether the Reds will be able to put maximum points on the board.

Liverpool 3-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Liverpool have not lost at home to Wolves in the Premier League since 2010, and have consistently looked strong against them in the league in recent years.

The Reds have beaten Wolves 2-0 in each of the last two years, but this year the Reds will go one better.

After a poor start to the season, Wolves have had a slight resurgence in recent weeks, beating Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup and Aston Villa, since losing 3-0 to Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool will be keen to bounce back after a controversial 2-2 draw in the Merseyside Derby.

I think this means that Liverpool will go one better in recent seasons and stride past Wolves 3-0.

Aston Villa 1-3 Liverpool

Villa Park is always a tough place to go these days, but Aston Villa are in the process of trying to get a lot of their squad back from injury.

Prior to the defeat by Wolves, Villa beat Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup and struggled past Leicester City and West Ham.

Liverpool had a three-game winning streak at Villa Park snapped last season as a chaotic 3-3 draw rang in the last of Jurgen Klopp’s away matches as Liverpool manager.

The Reds have been good against Villa in recent years, beating them 2-0 earlier in the season in front of a fairly drunk Kop.

This is a match in which I can see the home side scoring first, before Liverpool accelerate away in the second half to secure a vital win.

Manchester City 1-2 Liverpool

This is a clash which I can see going in all manner of different ways, as the Reds travel to face this mercurial Manchester City side.

City will be coming into this off the back of a Champions League second leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool beat Manchester City fairly comfortably earlier in the season, but at the Etihad Stadium in recent years it has been a different story.

The Reds have not won at the Etihad in the Premier League since 2015, but because of City’s season this arguably presents the best chance since then.

This is a game which I can see City getting the first goal before Liverpool win it late-on, almost similarly, but not quite as late, as Manchester United’s win there earlier in the season.

Liverpool 4-2 Newcastle United

In some ways, this is the most difficult to pick of the bunch.

Newcastle United have been inconsistent this season, but have been going well in recent weeks, including beating Arsenal resoundingly in the League Cup semi-final.

With a League Cup final looming between the two teams, you don’t know where Newcastle’s heads will be at.

Until the 3-3 draw between the two teams earlier in the season, Liverpool had won their past six meetings against Newcastle.

Last season’s game between the teams finished 4-2, and with how intense both teams can be I can see this one being similar, although Liverpool have been more conservative under Slot.

The running of Newcastle, against the attacking prowess of Liverpool could make for a high-scoring yet unpredictable encounter.

Liverpool 5-1 Southampton

This one feels like a long way off, on the 8th of March.

Liverpool’s last three Premier League home games against the Saints have finished 3-1, 4-0, and 2-0, all to Liverpool.

Southampton are having one of the worst top-flight seasons since the breakaway of the Premier League, earning nine points in 24 outings.

This game will be sandwiched between Liverpool’s two Champions League last 16 legs.

I think a slightly rotated side might yield a slow start, conceding the first goal in Liverpool fashion, but ultimately quality will prevail. Perhaps similarly to Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Norwich City in 2022.
