Arsenal recently drew to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, which means Liverpool can't be crowned as Premier League winners tonight. However, they now need only a draw against Tottenham Hotspur for their champion status to be confirmed.
Liverpool has had a phenomenal season. After 33 games played, they are top of the Premier League table with a 24-7-2 record, boasting 79 points.
Considering this is Arne Slot's first season in the top flight, the Liverpool manager and his players deserve nothing but applause from worldwide fans. After all, nobody would have anticipated the season to (potentially) be confirmed before the end of April.
Last season, Liverpool finished third in the Premier League. While they remained within touching distance of Arsenal, they were never involved in the title race last campaign, which feels like ancient history now.
Arne Slot didn't make any monumental changes either, he wasn't afforded the luxury to do so. Instead, he mostly inherited Jurgen Klopp's side, and has absolutely ran with it.
Now, could Liverpool be crowned as champions this weekend?
Liverpool needs a win against Tottenham to win the Premier League
Liverpool comes up against a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side, who only recently confirmed their safety status in the top flight for next season.
As if Liverpool didn't have enough motivation to go out there and beat the North London side, they would secure the Premier League trophy if they do. In fact, just one point against Spurs would be enough to prevent Arsenal or any other team from catching their tally.
Of course, facing Tottenham is never an easy task. They are an unpredictable force of nature and they can flick the on-switch even when it seems like they can't.
However, this season is the best time to face Tottenham, especially in a game where silverware is at stake (for one team, that is). This campaign, Spurs have been woeful and they don't look to be improving anytime soon under Ange Postecoglou.
Especially at Anfield Stadium, you'd have to favor Liverpool to win this tie. Sure, you could look at the pedigree of opposition and say "well, there's always next week" but champions don't do that... and Liverpool hasn't done that all season, so why start now?
To lift silverware, you have to beat the teams in front of you. Arne Slot will look at this as an opportunity to make a Premier League rival bitter about handing him the title in his first season.
