Liverpool’s player ratings – Sergio Agüero saves Man City a point and cancels out James Milner penalty
Performances on the night for Liverpool:
- Can’s immense performance got him the MoTM award in my opinion, and many others on social media believed the same thing. He looked Liverpool’s sharpest and liveliest player on the field.
- Both Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino started off sluggish and ended their time on the pitch in the same fashion. During the important part of the match, the middle, the two picked their game up and were applying their best. Firmino and Phil appeared to be getting back to their best.
Sadio Mane and Nathaniel Clyne were superb on the right-side of the pitch. The battle involving Leroy Sane and Clyne was a joy to watch.

- As on the right, was it on the left. The captain, Milner definitely led by example on the pitch. Yes, well aware the goal conceded again came in from the left-side, on Milner’s watch.
But, like him [Milner], I feel Ragna Klavan could have done better to read the cross played into the box and spot the run of Sergio Agüero in behind him. A small pocket of space offered, a chance taken exceptionally well by Man City.
- At the same time, Klavan and Matip were fantastic as a central-defensive pair. 1 goal conceded, from 13 shots at goal, but only registering 3 on target. The defense was an inch away from keeping a clean sheet. It took Man City until the 69th minute of the game, to hit Liverpool with the equalizer.
- The midfield, Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can were beyond excellent, whereas their midfield-partner, was far too average in the game. A ferocious shot on goal, forcing a good save out of Caballero on the one end. On the other end, a miss, the difference between three points and one. One day we will forgive him, and hopefully one day he will forgive himself too.
