Today, Jurgen Klopp squashed rumors that Liverpool are making a play for Manchester City goalkeeper, Joe Hart. In other words, Jurgen Klopp is losing Hart.

Joe Hart is in a precarious situation, having been banished from Manchester City by Pep Guardiola, Hart is currently on loan with Torino.

Hart has been extremely inconsistent this season in Serie A. In 30 appearances with Torino, Hart has managed 5 clean sheets, conceding an average of 1.63 goals per match. A bright spot in Hart’s game is his 93% claim success, saving an average of 2.5 shots on target per game.

In a quick comparison to Simon Mignolet, Liverpool’s man between the posts: Mignolet has made 23 appearances in the Premier League, keeping 5 clean sheets, conceding 1.22 goals per match, saving 1.65 shots on target, and claiming an average 82% of balls.

Jurgen Klopp on Joe Hart

Of course, it is not Hart’s performance this season that Premier League clubs are interested in his services. It is Hart’s past success in the league, and his consistency that his desired.

The Reds keeper situation has been inconsistent and motivated many to call for Klopp to make a change this summer. Mignolet has improved recently. Since the disaster at Leicester City, Mignolet has put together a 5-2-0 record.

Klopp said to BBC on Thursday, “You ask about goalkeepers but even though you don’t say the name is it about Joe Hart? We don’t usually talk about these sort of things but in this particular case I think we can. He [Hart] is a fantastic goalkeeper, the goalkeeper of the English national team, the highest quality, but we have highest-quality goalkeepers.”

This reveals that Klopp sees Mignolet as a top-flight keeper and doesn’t feel like this season necessitates a change between the posts. Mignolet seems to have corrected the mental errors and bad judgement calls earlier on in the season. If Klopp desires to upgrade his back-line this summer, Mignolet will defiantly benefit from a better defense.

Klopp continued, “It is not for us in this moment and hopefully not for us in the future, not because of Joe, but we already have two strong goal keepers.”

Liverpool fans should not forget that Danny Ward is still on loan at Huddersfield. According to Klopp, Ward is having a “brilliant season,” and he intends to return to Anfield for first-team competition next season.

Klopp simply believes that Liverpool’s goalkeeper situation is good. To a certain extent, I agree Mignolet has improved this season. There is still a fair amount of talent needing development from Ward, Karius, and Mignolet. It will be interesting to see if Klopp feels the same way in the summer. The Reds are staring down Champions League competition, where excellent goalkeeping is a must. Klopp is well aware, #TrustKlopp.
