Liverpool’s boss Jurgen Klopp mentioned on Friday that the club is speaking with potential signings and they are ready to bring in a few new faces this summer.
Klopp’s determination and willingness to correct his wrongs in previous transfer windows should be encouraging to fans. Regardless of how Liverpool finish in the Premier League table, they’re likely headed for European competition next season.
A win over Middlesbrough on Sunday will secure a return to the Champions League since 2014/2015. Klopp said that returning will be “the icing on the cake.” Let’s hope Klopp can have his cake and eat it too.
Liverpool Among the Biggest Clubs
The Reds future looks bright, it is exciting to see a club willing to spend to (hopefully) ensure their long-term success.
Klopp said, “If you look back over the last 10 years, even from outside, Liverpool always looked a massive club.” The Reds boss is on point, Liverpool are the 8th most valuable football club, according to Forbes.com.
Klopp went on to say, “I can only speak from a German point of view of other clubs, but Chelsea has the money, Man City is now coming up – wonderful players, big signings – Manchester United is Manchester United, but we are a really interesting project. Everyone can see that from the outside.”
According to the same Forbes article, Manchester United is the largest Premier League club. After Man U, is Man City and Chelsea. Liverpool are an exciting club, looking to grab new signings in hopes of European success, again! A hopeful consequence of this is a increase in the Reds brand and gathering many new fans across the world.
The Reds boss echoed this when he said, “The mood is different, a few people are different, but the base is there. There is still the power and size of this club, but the perspective has changed, we feel it in the talks… They have to see it, they have to feel it and they have to make a decision.”

Champions League and Beyond
This brings up an important point, the ‘Klopp factor,’ the Reds boss is a charismatic figure that attracts players to himself. Liverpool offer an attractive situation: Champions League football, are a top Premier League club, great facilities, Jurgen Klopp, and a team community that is unmatched.
Champions League competition is really attractive to big European players. This should be a tool in the back of Klopp’s pocket, using it to attract top talent this summer.
Klopp said, “It should not sound negative but if the Champions League is the only reason why a player is coming it makes no sense for him or for us. If you have one year of not qualifying, then the player decides he wants another Champions League club.”
Klopp is concerned with the long-term success of the club. It is not only about seeking signings that will help the club in Europe next season, but also for many years to come. This should excite fans. Having a club that is successful year over year is more exciting than a ‘one and done’ type club.
Lastly, Klopp said, “We are powerful in a lot of parts of the game and we will be successful in the future but for this we need the players, of course. We have very good players and we need a few more.”
He is correct, the club’s depth is lacking. Liverpool looked awful a multiple points this season because of their lack of depth. Klopp will seek to remedy that this summer with big signings that make sense for him and his system!
