Is Liverpool Winger Sheyi Ojo Likely To Leave on Loan?
By Paul Drake
Three teams are checking in on Liverpool winger, Sheyi Ojo. Currently, Newcastle United are leading the race for Ojo’s services, next season.
Ojo joined the Reds but has spent time on loan with two Championship clubs, Wolverhampton and Wigan Athletic. The 20-year-old has made just eight appearances with the Reds first-team, his debut occurred in January 2016.
After some frustrating appearances with the first-team, Jurgen Klopp is content to send the youngster out on loan again. The likely landing spots are Newcastle United, Burnley, and Middlesbrough, who have all contacted the Reds about Ojo.
What is Going on with Ojo?
During the 2016-2017 season, Ojo made one start and one substitution, both against Plymouth Argyle. His performance did not impress Klopp at all. This frustration according to Jack Pitt-Brooke, is the reason why Klopp “is happy to loan out the 20-year-old.”
During both matches against Plymouth Argyle, Ojo was almost non-exisitent. Though, his presence was apparent when he earned a yellow card during the second match, which doesn’t scream talent!
Simply, Ojo has been lackluster during his time with both Wigan and Wolverhampton, not to mention his time with Liverpool.

During both loans and his first-team appearances, Ojo has scored only four goals. Besides his quick pace, which I’m sure Klopp likes, his creativity is lacking. Dribbling and pace is not cutting it right now.
The Shields Gazette is reporting that former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez, who is currently managing at Newcastle United is looking to sign Ojo on loan. The Magpies are in need of another winger, and Benitez likes Ojo’s potential.
But, according to the Gazette, the Reds made it clear to that the Liverpool winger is not available for loan this season. This conflicts with the Independent report, but either way Newcastle hopes to work out a deal for Ojo during this summer window.
It is not a bad idea to loan Ojo again. He can use the experience, especially with another Premier League side. Ojo does possess some potential but has not lived up to it just yet. Maybe sending him away again will give him the experience that ignites his creativity.
