The self-proclaimed ‘In The Knows’ of Liverpool twitter have proved themselves absolutely to be ‘In The Don’t’ Knows’ this summer.
We are addicts and our drug is Liverpool. Yet they only play twice week and not at all for two months in the summer. So we are going to get our fix from somewhere. The transfer market is our summer dealer; giving us a slow drip of information to sate our yearnings.
Before the internet turned football rumors into an industry we were reliant on whatever was on the back pages of a tabloid. (Don’t buy the S*n). Yet now anyone who is bored with an iPhone can generate a rumor or stir the fanbase.
This has seen the uprise in the last few years of the ‘ITK’; people who think lying about football rumors is some kind of performance art. They post pictures of their ‘board rooms’. Pretending they have offices and sources and multiple contacts across Europe. At best it is laughable and sometimes it seems delusional; go-see-a-doctor delusional.

There schtick is to say some big news is coming tonight and then whatever Liverpool story breaks they then tweet about it 90 seconds after it breaks. Look at me! I told something was going to happen and it did!
The rest of their time is spent cluelessly guessing and rehashing news we heard from actual reporters week ago. I’m hearing a medical on Wednesday and announced Thursday!
All harmless fun, right? Well, no actually. So many sports fans look to their team as means of escapism; as a way of coping with the pains and struggles of life. When you feel that you are struggling alone in everything in your life you can turn to the Reds. We can struggle together. We can celebrate together. ITK’s mess with that. Toy with it to gain 100 likes and a dopamine shot of attention.
I wasn’t kidding when I said we are addicts. ITK’s have wound up so many fans into a frenzy about transfers. To the point where many fans can’t cope and so unload their fury on Jordan Henderson or Peter Moore. They harangue the actual journalists for more info. ITK’s didn’t create this culture but they do help plough into the gutter.
So don’t play along. Don’t give them the RT’s and likes they so desperately crave. Attention is their drug and it’s time we put them through cold turkey.
