If new signing Andrew Robertson isn’t already better then Alberto Moreno we should be very worried.

To most people’s surprise we have not seen much of Andrew Robertson in a Liverpool shirt. He is fit and healthy and ready to play but he is not playing. So what gives?

The young Scotsman arrived at Anfield as Liverpool’s third signing of the summer as competition for James Milner. His arrival was meant to mark the end of Alberto Moreno’s Liverpool career. Yet here we are with Moreno in the first team for crucial matches.

A decent preseason performance by Moreno against Bayern Munich seems to have convinced Jurgen Klopp to give the Spaniard another chance. In the two competitive games this season Moreno has been fine going forward but continues to be liability in defense.

Alongside Dejan Lovren that left hand corner of the pitch causes panic for every Liverpool fan. The gap between Lovren and Moreno is not simply our biggest weakness, it is a statue of Achilles’ heel made out of Kryptonite.

Klopp said today that Robertson still needs time to adapt. Yet I find it almost impossible to believe he could be worse than Alberto Moreno. If Milner was keeping him out that would be one thing. But Moreno? It makes me nervous. Perhaps Klopp wants to get these Champions League qualifiers out of the way before he begins to trust Robertson. I hope so because if he is struggling to beat our Moreno we are in trouble.

Spurs brought in Ben Davies a couple of years ago two compete with Danny Rose after the Englishman had become a bit of a liability for them. The competition spurred Rose on to become one of the best left backs in the Premier League and he never lost his place. Could that happen for Moreno?

I seriously doubt it. Moreno is on his umpteenth chance at Anfield and he is already showing moments of brainless defending in every game he plays. Let’s roll the dice with Robertson and see how far we get.
