Legendary Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has hailed Liverpool’s Anfield stadium as ‘special’.

The Ivory Coast master, who scored 170 goals in 389 appearances for the Blues, was reported by the Express as saying the Merseyside icon was one of the best grounds to play at.

Drogba was an absolute menace for the Stamford Bridge club across his two spells and seemed to relish the big occasions, which is probably why he loved playing at on Merseyside so much.

“I really enjoyed going there and playing there (Anfield). We played them in the Champions League so many times,” the newspaper reported that he said.

“You knew that it was going to be tough, a big game, a difficult game. They were never games you won or lost three or four nil.

“it was always tight, sometimes they won without goals…they were really good battles. Anfield is definitely one of the best stadiums to play at,” concluded Drogba.

His best Premier League season came in 2009/2010 when he hit an astonishing 29 goals and created another 13 in just 32 appearances.

The striker managed to set up two goals in Chelsea’s away fixture before scoring one in front of his home support.

Drogba’s next best personal tally was 20 and four assists from 36 games during the 2006/2007 campaign.

Again the Ivorian failed to score away from home and scored the decider during the Blues’ 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on the 17th of September.

The forward has seen his legacy of powerful, imposing strikers carried on through Spanish imports Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata.

And while Costa initially excelled in the Premier League, it always appeared as though he never really settled in England and was eventually sold back to Atletico Madrid this summer after being exiled back to Brazil.

Morata, meanwhile, has taken to life at Chelsea like a duck takes to water and has six goals in seven league games.

If the former Juventus and Real Madrid man continues scoring in that fashion he might even replace Drogba in the Stamford Bridge hall of fame, but it’ll take some effort.
