Liverpool have serious interest in a new goalkeeper after watching Simon Mignolet lose confidence and Loris Karius’ failure to develop. The two top targets have been Alisson Becker from Roma and Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid.
Though the Slovenian is clearly the better goalkeeper, it will take an offer of £100 million to sign him from the La Liga side. The Brazilian keeper is having an outstanding season in Italy and would be an excellent purchase. Other reports say Alisson Becker would be available for a fee in the region of £45 million.
It is unsure how much Liverpool bid over the weekend – or indeed if this story is true at all. All the sounds from the club are that there will be no incomings to the squad in the last few days of the window.
The only movement is expected to be outgoing. Daniel Sturridge is readying a loan move to West Brom and is taking a medical with the Baggies today. The other player who could leave before the end of the window is Lazar Markovic. The Serbian is unwanted by the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp. The most solid interest in the winger is coming from Swansea and Wolves.

An incoming goalkeeper would be a boost for a fanbase frustrated with this January’s business. Losing Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho with no replacements is a significant weakening of the club’s attacking options.
