Liverpool have two young attacking full backs that outshone their senior counterparts from Spurs in yesterday’s Premier League fixture.

Liverpool can take great encouragement from yesterday’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur despite the result. One great boon to Reds is the performance of the young full backs; Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

More from Rush The Kop

Andrew Robertson has been a revelation since settling into the side in the wake of Alberto Moreno’s injury. The Spaniard is fit again but is not getting a sniff of first team action because of Robertson’s excellent form.

Klopp preaches team ethic and hard work and the Scotsman has taken it on himself to be an embodiment of both. His relentless running means he is always available to help his center backs while he offers similar aid to Sadio Mane in the Liverpool attack.

Trent Alexander-Arnold got the surprise start this weekend as Joe Gomez was struggling with an injury. Klopp has been reluctant to use the youngster in the biggest games since he struggled against Manchester City earlier in the season.

However yesterday he was excellent, particularly in the first half when Liverpool were dominating the game. He is still more comfortable in attack than in defense. You get the impression that he much prefers pinging 40 yard passes and running at defenders than he likes tracking wingers and making tackles.

What was particularly noticeable yesterday was how much better the Liverpool pair were than they’re senior, and more heralded, counterparts from Spurs. Kieran Trippier is an England regular now and is fighting it out with his old teammate Kyle Walker to start for the Three Lions at the World Cup. Alexander-Arnold looked by far the better player at Anfield last night.

Ben Davies is having the season of his life at Spurs. He has successfully replaced Danny Rose in the Spurs first team and is being talked of alongside Marcos Alonso as one of the best left backs in the league. Well he was second best to Robertson in yesterday’s clash.

Liverpool can be very encouraged with how their young full backs are developing under Jurgen Klopp. More vital experience over the next few months will only go to make them better.
