Liverpool are battling Manchester United for the transfer of Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic.

The Manchester Evening News wrote that both sides want to bring the United States international to the Premier League.

After playing over 1,500 minutes of Bundesliga football for Dortmund, the newspaper has reported that Pulisic is ready for a move to England.

In 19 league appearances, the 19-year-old has scored three goals and assisted twice on top of his one strike in the DFL-Supercup.

Pulisic could be a long-term replacement for the Barcelona departed Philippe Coutinho, although he will cost a lot more than Coutinho did.

The Hershey born starlet can play on the right-wing or the left, and has even been used as an attacking midfielder – according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

In his young career, Pulisic has played 57 Bundesliga games and 15 in the Champions League – but his talent is really shown when you consider that he’s already clocked 20 international games before his 20th birthday.

There is a clear incentive for the Yank to join Liverpool ahead of United. Unlike the Red Devils, there is a certain path to the first team and he will be working under a manager who is ready to promote youth.

Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp will know Pulisic from his time in the Bundesliga and his knowledge about the differences between the leagues could help reduce his adjustment time.

From a transfers point of view, it is encouraging that FSG appear to be looking towards the future while bringing in first team ready players.

Like Thomas Lemar, Pulisic is young but has been exposed to a lot of high level football already and will improve in the future.

The dark undertones to this is that Liverpool would be able to sell-on these players after a few years of improvement – although this is clearly something that nobody wants to consider.
