The latest transfer news is that Liverpool will battle with Barcelona for the signing of Lyon wonderkid Houssem Aouar this summer.

Liverpool are hoping to get the better of Barcelona in the race to sign Olympic Lyonnais midfielder Houssem Aouar in the summer. The Reds have a long history of tracking the youngster with the player almost making the move to Anfield before his switch to Lyon. The club’s interest in the player has not waned and they look set to go big after the star in July.

Though Barcelona are equally pursuing his signing, Liverpool are in a better position. The irony being that Reds are stacked with the money Barca gave Liverpool for the signing of Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool also have manager Jurgen Klopp to convince the player to move to Merseyside over Spain. The German manager offers a much better prospect of development than at the Nou Camp.

Last summer Ousmane Dembele went from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona and has struggled to live up tp his potential; even putting his position in the French national side in jeopardy. Even Coutinho has found it hard to make the first team. That will not go unnoticed by Aouar’s camp.

Where as on the other hand youngsters such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are flying and the careers of Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson are thriving under Klopp.

Most appealing for the manager is that Houssem Aouar is a versatile player who can offer the positional and tactical flexibility that he loves. The player has started games in defensive midfield, center midfield, left midfield, attacking left, left forward and attacking right.

While known for his attacking play it is fascinating that his best performances – according to Whoscored.com – have come from the defensive midfield position. With Coutinho gone and Emre Can set to leave, Aouar would fill a natural gap in the current playing squad.
