Target rejects move for ‘something super big’
Liverpool transfer target and Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt has rejected a move to England for ‘something super big’.
Brandt has agreed terms on a new four-year contract, said talkSPORT, which ends any interest the Reds had in the 21-year-old German.
The attacker has been consistently linked with a move away from his homeland, stated the report, but now he’ll be able to knuckle down and concentrate on football.
Brandt moved to Leverkusen from the Wolfsburg youth setup in 2014 and has flourished. The starlet has played 165 times for his current side, scoring 29 goals and creating 33 assists. This season he’s hit the back of the net six times and is credited with four assists.

This news caps a good season for Bayer, who have now tied three key players down to new contracts. Brandt joins Jonathan Tar and Lars Bender in prolonging their stay at the BayArena.
And this is one of the key reasons why the winger decided to put pen to paper. “I feel totally comfortable and I see something super big growing here,” the website reported that he said.

“This had recently been shown to me by the recent contract renewals of Jonathan Tah and Lars Bender. The two of them, just like me, are convinced they can achieve something with this team,” Brandt concluded.
For Liverpool, it represents a slight blow to their transfer program. Brandt would have ticked off a number of key categories, but now manager Jurgen Klopp and the club board have to look at other targets.
It’s clear that they are keen to bring another winger to Anfield, especially after the departure of Philippe Coutinho. While the current first choice attackers are excellent, there is very little strength in depth – especially if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain players in midfield.

And while Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson are excellent prospects, it’s perhaps too soon to expect them to be an effective force as a backup option. Both Woodburn and Wilson need to spend their development years playing first team football, so using them in this way would also be harmful for them.
And so it’s back to the shortlist for the scouting team.
