Liverpool may have received a boost ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash with AS Roma after a key player for the Italians picked up an injury this weekend.

Liverpool have been given a boost ahead of the semi-final matchup with AS Roma in the Champions League. Roma defender Kostas Manolas picked up an injury in the Rome derby with Lazio yesterday.

The 0-0 draw was an intense and physical affair – which is great news for Liverpool. The defender left the field unexpectedly in the 74th minute after picking up a knock. Now fans of both sides will be watching the injury reports to see how serious the injury is and whether or not he is in jeopardy of missing the fist leg next Tuesday.

The Greek center back was the hero of the famous comeback against Barcelona last week. He scored the injury time winner to make the game 3-0 after losing the first leg 4-1. Roma went through on the away goals rule.

The Italians have to play two more Serie A games before the first leg of the semi final. Liverpool on the other hand have only the visit to Premier League bottom club West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. That is a 12:30pm BST early kick off giving the Reds even more time to be ready for the Champions League clash the following Tuesday.

Liverpool have been devastating defenses in Europe this season and are the highest scoring team in the Champions League. Roma cannot afford to lose a key defender if they have any hope of stopping Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and ex-Roma star Mohamed Salah next week.

Liverpool will be hoping that their own defender will be fit for the tie. Dejan Lovren went off from the win against Bournemouth on Saturday and was replaced by Ragnar Klavan. Reds are eagerly watching for news from Anfield about the injury.
