examining Stoke City stopper Jack Butland and blockbuster Atletico Madrid man Jan Oblak.
Many Reds fans have been negative about a move for Jack Butland. The England keeper has been part of speculation of a move to Anfield since the summer. While some were more receptive early on, the latest rumors come after a good spell by current keeper Loris Karius and the Stoke man struggling to keep out goals.
The fanbase is far more excited about a move for Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak. He is currently the best keeper in La Liga and considered in the top tier of players in that position alongside Manuel Neuer and David de Gea.
Many feel that Karius is decent enough and the club should only fork out for a new goalkeeper if he is a significant improvement. Oblak fits that bill but the club would have to shell out the reported £100 million transfer fee. Arsenal are also in the mix for the signing.
Much will depend on these final games of the season. If Karius performs well in both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Roma, and potentially the final, it will be hard for the club to move on from him as first choice.
Equally a poor showing in the final weeks of the season could see a clamor of fan pressure to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

It increasingly looks like Butland will not offer Liverpool a significant upgrade at the position. That makes Oblak the more likely of the two. Whether or not the Reds will break their transfer record for a goalie remains doubtful in the eyes of most fans.
