News that former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva will be in the away end as the Reds face Roma in Italy only adds to his legendary cult status.

Liverpool are playing in Rome next week. Don’t know if you’ve heard? One fan who lives in the city also happens to be a Liverpool cult legend. Lucas Leiva is going to be joining the Liverpool fans in the away end as the Reds face his current club Lazio’s fierce city rivals.

The Brazilian left Anfield last summer in a £5 million move to the Italian capital. The 31-year-old has had a mini-revival in Rome, becoming a key player for Lazio. He has scored 4 goals and 5 assists this year, almost eclipsing his 10 year haul at Liverpool in one year!

There is also news today that Lucas is using his connections at Lazio to work out training facilities for Liverpool with his current side. He is still a Red and is doing all he can to make sure Liverpool reach that Champions League final in Kiev next month.

His Twitter feed contains regular support for the Reds. Recent posts include tributes to Hillsborough, birthday wishes to Rafa Benitez and unabashed support of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

While at Anfield he had a rollercoaster relationship with the fans. From initial skepticism to winning the Liverpool player of the year award. He spent most of his last two seasons under Jurgen Klopp filling in at center back.

Now with the clarity of hindsight most Liverpool fans view him as a faithful servant of the club. And in many eyes he has grown into a cult figure. His use of the word ‘unlucky’ has become a Liverpool catchphrase. I hope he is bouncing in the away end with the rest of the traveling Kop as we head to another European Cup final.
