The transfer of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool has been thrown into question by comments from the player’s father. Here is the latest on the Fekir move to Liverpool.

The transfer rumour dominating the swirl around Liverpool Football Club is the potential move of Lyon forward Nabil Fekir to Anfield this summer. The long-term target is the subject of intense speculation after a series of French based journalists have claimed that Liverpool have an agreement with Lyon for the player.

Fuel has been thrown on that fire by player like Sadio Mane who have commented positively on a potential arrival for Fekir. Now someone close to the player is looking to dampen those flames.

One Lyon based website has quotes from the player’s father who says no deal is in place. Mohamed Fekir says: “I can deny this information right now: it’s not true. Otherwise Nabil would have told me right away, we are very close. ”

While we do not know enough about the Fekir family dynamics to know if this true it is concerning for Reds fans who have been hoping to see him lineup with Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino next season.

Responding to claims that the player met with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp earlier in the year Fekir’s father says: “I can guarantee you, he has never met”.

It is hard to know what to make of the comments because of how Liverpool are handling big transfers. There were similar confirmations and denials all last summer of a potential move for Naby Keita. That move looked dead until a last-minute breakthrough that saw the player agree to move to Anfield a year later in July 2018.

Until there is confirmation or denial from journalists close to Liverpool then every little comment surrounding Fekir will be newsworthy in the summer transfer storm.
