Liverpool have received a boost after news that £30 million transfer target James Maddison will only be out of action for eight weeks with a knee injury.

Liverpool Football Club got some good injury news for a change. Not to any of the current squad preparing for the European Cup final but to one potential target. James Maddison of Norwich City is the subject of £30 million Liverpool transfer interest and he has just received some positive injury news.

The midfielder has been rumored for a big move to Anfield and must have feared the worst when he had to leave the field in the 11th minute of his side’s 5-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday with a knee injury.

Every time a player clutches their knee in agony there is the potential for a long-term injury. Luckily for Maddison it was not an ACL, MCL or meniscus tear but a simple strain. That means he should be fit to train in eight weeks time.

Any serious injury would have ruled out a summer move for James Maddison. No club would have taken the risk of a chronic knee problem – the likes of which can end a career. At least now the player can be confidant of passing a medical this summer should a big money move to the Premier League arrive.

Liverpool have had a string of bad news with injuries. Losing Joel Matip for the season had already thinned the defensive ranks before Joe Gomez was similarly ruled out for the remaining games.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss significant time with a knee injury himself and faces a race to be fit for the beginning of the 2018/19 season. Emre Can has been missing since the middle of March and is fighting to find fitness before the Champions League showdown on Saturday 26th May.
