The Youngsters

For the second consecutive year, Trent Alexander-Arnold was named Young Player of the Season. He has done superbly since instilling himself into the starting eleven, at first due to injuries to Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez and then as a result of his own play. The England youth international has been one of Liverpool’s standout players in the Champions League.

More from Rush The Kop

Alexander-Arnold scored Liverpool’s first European goal of the season, a thundering free kick against Hoffenheim. After that, he has kept his composure against the likes of Porto and Manchester City in high-pressure situations. Alexander-Arnold struggled slightly in the return leg against Roma, but that is to be expected since he’s only 19 years old.

On the other hand, Harry Wilson won the Academy Player of the Season award. The Welsh winger is currently on loan at Hull City, where he’s scored seven goals and delivered four assists in 13 games. Prior to that, he had 10 goals and three assists in 12 games for the Reds’ under-23 squad.

On paper, Wilson has done enough to finally thrust himself into Liverpool’s first team picture. He could be an Academy-produced, free backup for the Reds’ dynamite front three. But with links to Nabil Fekir, it appears that Wilson’s long-term future might not be on Merseyside.
