Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana will be devastated to miss put on a place in the England squad to the World Cup but he can help turn that pain into European glory.

It has been a frustrating 10 months for Adam Lallana that has resulted in the attacker missing out on a spot in the England squad for the World Cup that was named today by Gareth Southgate.

Back in August the midfield playmaker was coming off his best season for Liverpool – eight goals and a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking system. Then an injury in pre-season ruled him out until the end of 2017.

His re-introduction to the side has come in fits and starts in 2018. Another couple of injuries have kept him from getting a good run of fitness. Despite that he was featured in the England squad for the two friendlies in March.

It looks like this most recent injury  – one that has kept him away from Liverpool’s excellent run to the Champions League final – appears to have been too much for Gareth Southgate to overlook.

The disappointment will be even greater seeing underwhelming names like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Danny Welbeck taking his place.

Despite this setback Lallana has recovered from injury and will likely feature from the bench in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev next week.

He came off the bench in the Premier League season closer against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday and will offer Jurgen Klopp a different option on May 26th.

With Philippe Coutinho long gone and Emre Can and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sidelined Liverpool lack a player in the middle of the park who can carry the ball forward into attack. Lallana’ high level of skill and control could come in handy next week if Liverpool are looking to grab a goal late in the game.
