Liverpool would like to get Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele on loan for the 2018/19 season but the chances of that are slim to non-existent.

Hello there. I’d like a world-class forward on loan for a season with extra fries please. Unfortunately making football transfers happen is not as easy as picking from a burger menu. Actually I fin that hard, never mind.

Multiple reports over the last few weeks are suggesting that Liverpool are wanting take Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele on loan next season. The French starlet will be on the outside of the first in the aftermath of Barca’s expected move for his countryman Antoine Griezmann.

Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of the youngster’s lack of playing time by offering a year’s loan. That way the player can continue to develop at the highest level and Barcelona can reassess their options next summer when both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will be 32-years-old.

If you put on your Liverpool red tinted glasses you can make a case why this will work out. The reality is much more complicated and the move will almost certainly never happen.

For a start, Liverpool are just not that lucky. You know this. We all know this. Secondly Barca need to beef up their attack for next season. An injury to Messi, Suarez or Griezmann would mean they were back starting Everton-level forward Gerard Deulofeu once again.

Also the Nou Camp side will be desperate to win the Champions League next year. They cantered to the La Liga title but were knocked out of the European Cup by AS Roma who then fell to Liverpool. Watching Real Madrid make four finals in five years makes that competition a priority next year.

Liverpool have proved this season to be European contenders once again. Why would Barca strengthen the Reds, weaken their squad and make their attempt at a sixth Champions League title even harder?

I would love for this move to happen as much as Jurgen Klopp does. However I can see no way it actually goes through. I will be as happy as any Red to be proved an idiot on this one!
