Liverpool midfielder Emre Can looks set to be involved in the Champions League final. While some are mad at the prospect, winning is more important.

Emre Can has returned to first team training with the Liverpool squad ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev. And some Liverpool fans are really unhappy about it.

As I am sure you know by now, Emre Can is likely leaving Liverpool Football Club on a free transfer when his contract expires in June. In all probability he will join Juventus or Bayern Munich, but there remains the possibility he may sign for Manchester City or Manchester United. Hence why he is not getting much love from many Kopites.

Much like when Philippe Coutinho was attempting to leave earlier in the season, fans do not want to invest in a player who is intent on departing. It is very much a case of ‘You don’t dump me, I dump you!’.

Can has been at the club for four years with no trophies for his efforts. So it curious to fans that he would be leaving just as we are getting back into the position to challenge for major honors.

I can understand the impulse to ‘bin him’. Why let him have the privilege of representing Liverpool on the greatest stage – the Champions League final – on the eve of his departure? Quite simply: because winning it everything.

This football club exists to win trophies. To bring glory and joy to the fans. Emre Can will help us do that on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp only has three other available midfielders for the central trio; Gini Wijnaldum, James Miner and Jordan Henderson. An injury to any of those players and the options thin out very quickly: Trent Alexander-Arnold with Nathaniel Clyne at right back or Roberto Firmino with Dominic Solanke at number 9. Neither of those options are appealing against a seasoned European side like Real Madrid.
