Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has demolished rumours of a rift between himself and manager Jurgen Klopp.

Anfield Edition tweeted a link to their exclusive, claiming Sturridge and Klopp had fallen out due to the former not being invited to the Champions League final.

The website cited that incoming midfielder Naby Keita, who hasn’t joined the club yet, had received one – while the English forward had not.

But in a surprising move, Sturridge fired back on Twitter and claimed that nothing of the sort had happened and that Liverpool retained his full support.

Whether or not the pair have lost love is probably going to be irrelevant. The injury-prone lad spent the last part of the season on loan at West Brom, where he promptly picked up a niggle and only played six times.

That total of 116 minutes and no goals was not the result Sturridge would have wanted, and surely leaves him bottom of the Anfield pecking order. It seems clear that Klopp doesn’t want to play the ex-Chelsea man, and a permanent move away from Merseyside would be the best solution for all involved.

But it is good to see that Sturridge wants to club to succeed, even if he can’t be apart of it. During that magic campaign under Brendan Rodgers, few would have predicted reaching a Champions League final without the 28-year-old.

Constant injury has robbed Liverpool of that firepower. For a man with 64 goals in 133 games, there will always be a nagging sense of ‘what if’.

The time has now come to forget about past glories and focus on the present. Roberto Firmino can become everything Sturridge wasn’t, while Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah can still improve their game.

A few more years of those three is as tantalising a prospect as Sturridge once was. Here’s to hoping it’ll all turn out better!
