Rising Liverpool star Andy Robertson was signed by Jurgen Klopp but Liverpool also have Brendan Rodgers to thank for signing the Scottish left back.

It was the summer of 2014 and Liverpool had just fallen painfully short of the Premier League title. Despite that disappointment and the prospect of Luis Suarez leaving, there was plenty of hope around the club.

Liverpool were back in the Champions League and in Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling had young, hungry, talent. The future looked good. And all these positive developments turned the head of another young, talented prospect.

Over at White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur were trying to tie down one of their best prospects in years; Kevin Stewart. But Brendan Rodgers was able to convince the combative midfielder to join him at Anfield.

Stewart’s career at Liverpool never fulfilled its potential. Loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion and Swindon Town failed to set the world on fire. However under Klopp he was able to get a few chances to impress in the first team. He didn’t grab them and made just 11 appearances at the club.

That takes us to last summer. Liverpool were negotiating with the recently relegated Hull for Andy Robertson. They were able to sign him for £8 million + add ons. During that deal they were able to cover the entire fee by selling Kevin Stewart to the Tigers for £8 million.

Andy Robertson went on to be a revelation in the second half of the season as Liverpool burst to the Champions League final. After over a decade of looking, it appears we have our left back of the future.
